April Fools!

Here's what we woke up to this morning. What?!?!?! Snow?!?!?! That's right. Mother Nature has pulled an April Fool's joke on us. Basically, no snow all winter (because doesn't everyone want their snow in Spring?). It's okay though, we'll take anything we can get. Hopefully the mountains are getting PILES of the white stuff. That way there will be plenty of water for the farmers later this summer.

Speaking of farmers, I've been starting some of my seedlings indoors. Well, and outdoors too......I converted this old greenhouse window into a make-shift mini cold-frame.

Yesterday, I seeded some cold-hardy seedlings (spinach, chard, lettuce, broccoli, & some perennial flowers) and placed them in the cold-frame. I also seeded a few tomatoes (just to see what happens) and put them in there, too.

I also transplanted the seedlings indoors into deeper pots as my indoor seedlings always get too "leggy". I'm sure a grow light would help correct that situation. I'll put that on my list of "to do" items. Here's how they look now.....

In about 6 weeks, (mid-May)they should be big enough to transplant outside. Hopefully we won't have snow THEN! Actually, the tomatoes won't be able to go out until JUNE. They can just hang out on my kitchen counter until then. Well, with some transition days outside so they can acclimate to the weather.

Hope you're having a joke free April!

Happy Spring!

Lori

  1. June is about the time my tomatoes will stop setting fruit because of the heat!
